Dmitry Semenov Quartet

Dmitry Semenov is a virtuosic tenor saxophonist and one of the most progressive voices in the contemporary jazz scene. After earning a prestigious scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, he returned to his native Saint Petersburg, bringing with him a sophisticated musical language that seamlessly bridges the gap between classic traditions and modern innovation.
Whether performing straight-ahead jazz, hip-hop-infused grooves, or cerebral fusion, Dmitry’s playing is defined by the impeccable technique and artistic depth he refined during his time in the United States.
For several years, Dmitry was a key composer for the Jazz F@nck Quartet. Today, he leads his own ensemble, exploring the vibrant intersection of funk, jazz-rock, and electronic music. Describing his compositions as «complex yet accessible,» he masterfully balances instrumental tracks with vocal collaborations, often performing vocals himself alongside invited guest vocalists.
Dmitry’s artistic foundation is built on world-class mentorship. He has studied under renowned masters such as Hal Crook, Frank Tiberi, Dino Govoni, George Garzone, Ed Tomassi, and Dave Samuels. He is also a graduate of the Mussorgsky College of Music and the Saint Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts.
His career highlights include:
- International Presence: Performing on major jazz stages across Russia and the United States.
- Collaborations: Working with jazz icons Terri Lyne Carrington and Dave Liebman.
- Discography: Releasing his debut solo album in 2012 and featuring on Berklee’s prestigious annual Jazz Revelation Records compilation.
- Special Projects: Performing at a private event for Mick Jagger during the Rolling Stones’ Russian tour.
Currently, Dmitry is a member of Andrei Kondakov’s Electric Project and a permanent collaborator with the Amy Pieterse Group.
